The traditional guesthouse "Vilaeti" is located in the village of "Agios
Konstantinos" in the gorgeous Lassithi Plateau in Crete!
Lassithi plateau is a dreamy destination in Cretan inland. It is one
of the prettiest and greenest areas during spring and summer and the 1500 white
windmills, which still make a splendid sight against the mountains, used to
break the otherwise green landscape. It lies at an
altitude of 850 meters and at the same time not far from the coastal areas of
Northeastern Crete.
The mansion was divided and transformed into two guesthouses with
separate, fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms with hot water, independent
heating, fire-places, TV sets, HI-FI stereos and DVD players.
The traditional furniture, the hand-made, woven blankets, the style of the
indoor and outdoor rooms, the fire-places, the dream rooms with the nets above
the beds but most important of all the hospitality and warmth of the local
people create a snug and cozy atmosphere.
Guest house Aniforas
The small guesthouse is called "Aniforas" and used to be the
place where animals were kept. Aniforas was the name for the chimneys of
the fireplaces as well as the name for the ceiling windows, which, back, then,
were made of big jars by the local craftsmen.
In the kitchen of "Anifora" guesthouse, you can find a wide range of
local products hanging from the ceiling, like little tomatoes, peppers, oregon,
garlic and many more that can be used for cooking. In that way not only little
goodies are offered to the visitors but also an air of tradition was added in
the room. Old type baskets have also been hung from the ceiling, which are also
used food storage while an old plate rack has successfully completed the
decoration of the room.
Guest House Portego
The big guesthouse, which is called "Portego", consists of
the oven room, the wine pressroom and the old barn, which is transformed into a
lovely bedroom. The wine press has been transformed into a bed. The space bellow
the bed is a storage place for carpets and folding beds. The walls have been
decorated with fine, old, hand made Cretan woven textiles, while this special
decoration has been completed with hand made, Cretan cushions.
The barn has been altered into a lovely bedroom with the unique detail of the
stone ledges, where bronze lamps that lit the wall have been put. Between the
‘Anifora’ guesthouse and the bedroom there is an atrium, a special, detached
room where you can enjoy the reading of a book or a relaxing siesta. The oven
room is the place the family used for their everyday activities such as the
making of bread. The imposing oven reveals the wealth and nobility of the
mansion. Stone steps lead to the bedrooms and the ceramic pitchers which stand
on rests give the room a remarkable look.
